I recognized the Tage Frid style bench that it once was and decided I had to save this from the bonfire.Ī plan for this style of bench was published in FWW Fall 1976 issue by Tage Frid. I was getting ready to make a split top roubo style bench. In the ad, he mentioned it would make great firewood. The grandson had been using it for small engine repair. He was pretty sure he had built it shortly after he arrived to Canada in the early 1900's. The grandson had inherited it from his grandfather who was an immigrant cabinet maker from Denmark. I found this bench on Kjiji in really rough shape. Rosewood santos square dogs and leather suede on the vice faces. Base has several coats of oil based poly. I find that the length and narrow width really helps working around it and opens up lots of clamping options. Hard maple top is 3" thick by 15 1/2" w by 82 1/2" long. Tage Frid style workbench with hard maple top and the remainder in Douglas Fir.
